Finally! Lions Defeat The Bills 20 - 17!
Whew. We can all finally exhale. The Lions will NOT go winless in 2006. The Lions defeated the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, 20-17.
Okay… I may be a big dork for being excited about a minor win like this, but c’mon, cut me some slack. Us Lions fans haven’t exactly had much to cheer about lately. And the win over Buffalo was actually way more decisive than the score actually showed. The Lions controlled the game from the kickoff, and they moved the ball at will against a fairly decent Buffalo defense.
Roy Williams had a huge game. He was basically the entire receiving corps and was virtually unstoppable. Kevin Jones broke off some huge runs and he finally topped 100 yards rushing on the day. Is it a coincidence that the Lions won their first game of the year when Jones finally topped the centry mark? We’ve been harping on that for a long time, so it was nice to see Jones top 100 yards and the Honolulu Blue bring home the win.
Best of all, the Detroit defense showed up for real and they even got a few sacks. There is so much to analyze on the Lions right now. Players that are stepping up. Players that are invisible. I won’t dig deep into the details right now (don’t worry, I plan to dissect the team and it’s direction some time this week, I promise). But right now, let’s just savor the rare win.
Good for the Lions. Good for Rod Marinelli and Mike Martz. And most of all - good for the Lions players and coaches who have undoubtedly had to endure alot lately. Congrats you guys. You played hard and you earned this win.
