Player Updates: Damien Woody, Shaun Rogers, Ernie Sims
According to the Detroit News, offensive lineman Damien Woody (hand) was in Birmingham, Ala., Monday to have his broken right hand examined, but tests came out good. He will rest it and protect it through the pre-season. If all goes well, he could be ready for the season opener. We know how important that offensive line is, especially after seeing the lackluster rushing attack of last week. Let’s hope the Woodman is back in time for opening day.
On the other side of the ball, defensive tackle Shaun Rogers is reportedly rehabbing nicely from a separated shoulder (as well as tonsilitus) and is expected to be ready for the opener. Rogers impact on the field can not be overstated. He’s a monster that we need on the field this year if we are going to have a shot against the Bears and the Vikes.
Finally, rookie Ernie Sims, who had an excellent game against Cleveland, has been promoted into the starting lineup. He’ll be weakside linebacker for the Honolulu blue this year. Love this guy’s potential, especially if we can keep the vets around him healthy and on the field to back him up.
