Lions Sign Five Draft Picks
The Lions signed five major draft picks yesterday, just in time to get them into camp. The players were: OL Fred Matua, LB Anthony Cannon, CB Dee McCann, RB Brian Calhoun and OT Jonathan Scott. Still unsigned are first round pick Ernie Sims, a linebacker, and second round choice Daniel Bullocks, a safety.
The signing of Calhoun is a relief for Lions fans. Calhoun could be a major contributor down the road and he will certainly be groomed to be Kevin Jones’ backup. For runningbacks, getting into camp early is crucial. Most runningbacks can pick up the pro running game quickly, but it can be tough for rookies to learn how to pick up various pro blitz packages. We’ll keep an eye on Calhoun as pre-season rolls around.
