About
I admit it. I love the Detroit Lions. Even though they suck, I still watch their games and I root for them every week. Glutton for punishment or true blue fan? Only time will tell.
Being born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan, I grew up watching the Detroit Lions every Sunday. It’s been frustrating to say the least. The Lions have won only one playoff game since 1957. The last five years have been especially brutal. The Lions have compiled the league’s worst record during the past five seasons at 21-59. General Manager Matt Millen has survived countless missteps and even former 49er head coach Steve Mariucci was unable to turn the franchise around. Going into the 2006 season, the team has a new head coach in Rod Marinelli, and a new offensive mastermind in Mike Martz. Hopes are high once again.
So why write a blog about the Detroit Lions? Well, maybe this blog will serve as a form of therapy for this long suffering Lions fan. Living in Chicago, there are not alot of us out there. The web provides a wider forum for us. The blog also might provide some comfort for other Lions fans. Sometimes just knowing that there are other Lions fans out there makes the suffering a bit easier. You are not alone.
Another idea behind the Detroit Lions Fan Blog is to provide a forum for fans to talk back to the ownership of the franchise. Many fans (myself included) think that the ownership of the Detroit Lions is to blame for the teams horrible performance. Fielding a competitive team does not seem to be a problem for other franchises such as the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants. Why do the Lions fall short year after year? The players change. The coaching staff changes. Unfortunately, the Lions cannot seem to turn the corner. Let’s hope that this changes, and soon.
I’ll use this blog as a sounding board to discuss all things Detroit Lions related. The games. The players. The coaching. And of course, the direction of the franchise in general. The Lions have some of the greatest fans in the world. Let’s hope that the team rewards their fans with a championship soon.
